Paul McCartney has extended his streak as the most successful albums artist on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart dated June 5.
The Boys of Dungeon Lane, produced by Andrew Watt and featuring Ringo Starr, is Macca’s 24th chart-topping LP, including his work with The Beatles, Wings and as a solo act.
The Official Charts Company recognizes Robbie Williams on the Official Albums Chart’s all-time leading artist with 16 solo albums to have hit No. 1. The Beatles are second with 15 No. 1 LPs.
McCartney achieved 15 of his No. 1 albums with the Fab Four across the band’s studio albums, compilations and live albums; two with Wings (Band on the Run, 1973; Venus & Mars, 1975); one with his wife Linda McCartney (Ram, 1971) and the remainder as a solo act. His last No. 1 came in 2020 with McCartney III.
Becca Monahan and Chris Austin, co-managing directors of the Official Charts Company, said in a statement, “Paul McCartney securing his 24th U.K. No. 1 album in the U.K. is an incredible achievement, and his place as the most successful albums artist in the history of the Official Charts is truly deserved. Across seven decades, Paul’s music has found new generations of fans, and this latest milestone is a testament to his extraordinary career.”
Michael Jackson’s The Essential collection enjoys continued success and finishes at No. 2. Scottish duo Boards of Canada’s Inferno, its first new album in 13 years, lands at No. 3 to become the pair’s highest charting album to date; its previous high came in 2013 with Tomorrow’s Harvest charting at No. 7.
Drake’s ICEMAN closes the week at No. 4, while Olivia Dean’s The Art of Loving ends at No. 5. Florida band Shinedown earns its third top 10 album with EI8HT landing, appropriately, at No. 8.
