Most people’s weddings don’t make it onto the radar of a city’s mayor, but Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are not most people. And in a press conference on Monday (June 15), Mayor Zohran Mamdani seemingly confirmed reports that the couple will tie the knot in New York City on Fourth of July weekend while discussing public safety amid major events.

While addressing reporters, the progressive NYC mayor was asked about his plans to ensure a safe environment on July 5, when FIFA is set to take over Met Life Stadium in nearby East Rutherford, N.J., for a match. “I am fully confident in the work of the NYPD as well as our state partners in delivering that safe experience,” Mamdani said. “We are the biggest city in the country. We are used to big events and we are incredibly excited for this one.”

“We know it coincides with July 4th, America 250, Taylor Swift’s wedding, all happening at the same time,” he continued with a smile. “And we are so excited to welcome the world here.”

Naturally, Mamdani was then asked whether he’d received an invite to the couple’s big day, and if he was planning on attending. “No and no,” he said, laughing. “I wish them a lovely wedding. I’ll listen to ‘Only the Young’ at home on my own.”

Billboard has reached out to reps for Swift and Kelce, and the mayor’s office for comment.

It’s unclear whether Mamdani was serious in his confirmation that the pop star and Kansas City Chiefs tight end are getting married in NYC over July 4 weekend, or if he was simply joking in reference to prior reports that the ceremony is taking place inside the city’s Madison Square Garden around that time. Neither Swift nor Kelce have confirmed the date or venue of their upcoming nuptials, although they have both expressed how excited they are to tie the knot.

“I know it’s going to be fun to plan,” Swift told Graham Norton last fall, gushing that she plans to put “anyone I’ve ever talked to” on the invite list.

Kelce has also previously hinted that he and his famous fiancée will have a summer wedding — and with the Chiefs’ late-July training camp on the horizon, there’s only so much time left for the ceremony to take place this summer.
